great pictures, Jewelltrail! your pictures persuaded me to buy this lens.

3 concerns, is the color of a16 very different from pentax SMC colors?

and, is the focusing of a16 on a pentax body very noisy that will even bother others?

last, is the lens fungus prone and does it repel dust? thanks a lot!

Hi Shang and thank you very much for your gracious words:

Here are my thoughts on the questions you pose for the A16P. I have shot with it for well over 2 years now.

1) Some people seem convinced Pentax lenses produce special colors, with the word "pop" used often. I do not see it though. The colors between most lenses are close, and more affected by lighting and exposure than by anything else--obviously. Also, I nearly always custom PP shots I like, and this involves playing with color to achieve my desired ends. Since you really can do whatever you desire with colors in PPing, I see miniscule color differences as a moot point when discussing lenses and more of an Emperor's New Clothes phenomenon.

2) It is not an HSM lens, and generates sound when seeking accurate focus. I have gotten used to it to the point I had not given it a thought until you brought it up here. No one has ever commented on the noise the lens makes to me in the many thousands of shots I have taken with it.

3) Hmmmm--not sure how I would know if it repels dust, but I can say dust has never been an issue with the lens. When it turned 2 years old, I sent it in to Tamron for a free checkup, and it was returned with 2 thumbs up. I think I remember seeing the words "removed dust" in the tuneup description, but it was not dust I ever noticed.

I picked up a (2nd-hand) copy of the 17-50mm f/2.8 at the weekend. First impressions? I love it - solid build, nice weight on the k7 and it's sharp!

Gloucester Old Spot pub in Cheltenham. 50mm, 1/8s, so any blur is me, not the lens!

PKA Adaptall 2 Mounts

I have several Tamron lenses both old and new. I would love to upgrade the old adaptall 2 lenses to "A" status on my K-x. Unfortunately the PKA adapters are scarce. I have seen some of the posts about adapting the PKM but I am not that handy. I know about the pressure of supply and demand but... For me it makes no scense to spend $100 or more for a mount on a lens that is worth less than that. In many cases a replacement lens with a permanent mount could be had for less than the combined cost of lens and adapter. Does anyone know of a cost effective alternative? Can we convince someone to make a low cost nock off? There is a lot of very nice glass out there that would be great on a new Pentax DSLR !!

Hi,

yes, there's some - I shoot RAW and then tweak levels, some sharpness and cropping to get the shot I wanted. Nothing extreme though. The directly imported photos look good, I just like to use all that extra info in the RAW to make the photos pop as best I can!

Lovely butterfly shot!

I took a lot of pics using a Tamron 17-50mm and Adaptall 60-300mm (23A) combination at the weekend. I think that, along with the 100mm pentax macro, these three lenses would be enough to shoot all day at all sorts of events.

Quick portrait with the 60-300:

I'll put some others up once they are processed

Thanks & nice portrait Cuchulainn. I agree with your assessment above, being an owner of the Tammy 17-50 & Adaptall 23a. I shoot with the Tammy 90 macro instead of the Pentax one though. There isn't much you can't do without this lens setup.
