I'm a Tamron lover too, got 2 of them, the 90 mm f/2.8 and the 28-300 mm f/3.5-6.3.

Tamron 90 mm

I use this lens almost daily and not only for macro. It's fast, it's sharp, I just love it. Took me a while to get good friends, but now we are real close

Hello Tamron users,

I just purchased a Tamron Adaptall-2 SP A23 60-300mm manual lens. One of the primary reasons I bought it is for the close-focusing capabilities. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get it into Macro mode. I've tried all the twisting and pulling I can and nothing seems to do it. If I turn the aperture ring to the 32 setting and then turn further, the brightness of the lens is reduced by about 50%, but no close focusing capabilities are obtained.

Does anyone else have this lens and can tell me how to get it into Macro mode? Ive read everything I can find online and nobody discusses this.

For Macro, pull zoom to 60mm and turn to minimum focussing distance. There is now a bit of give to pull the zoom back a little further to below 60mm and the focus ring can then be turned beyond the 1.9m mark to get to Macro. Many of these lenses, if not used for Macro for long periods, can be very difficult to get into Macro, even if you follow the procedure corectly. Once in Macro, you need to focus by push & pull, which is awkward. Macro is reported as sharp in center, soft @ edges. Good luck.

Thank you, Jewelltrail, for your explanation.

I can feel the notch at 60mm, but if I try to turn the zoom ring clockwise (with the camera facing forward), the adaptall mount disengages and the lens comes off. Is that the direction it needs to turn? I sure don't want to destroy my new lens!

Thanks again. I am very grateful for the assistance.

I suggest doing this with the lens off the body--I darn near ripped my K-mount right out of my K20d as I struggled, for over a week, to get mine into Macro for the 1st time.

If the Adaptall mount is against your stomach, you need to turn the focusing grip to your right, clockwise. The trick is to maintain downward pressure as you try to make it turn. When you are in, you know because the 2, orange marks align perfectly.

100% clear. Wow, over a week! I won't let a couple hours of struggling get me down. Thanks again.

Also worth "working" the lens while in macro to make the movement smoother. I got a 60-300mm second hand and the first 20+ times I tried to put it in macro it was extremely difficult, but it did improve a lot with use. Macro mode is pretty useful on this lens - I use my 100mm when I want a "real" macro shot, but the 60-300 provided some excellent shots at other times.

You are very welcome! Please update us with your progress. BTW, Cuchulainn is right: once you get into Macro, work it --over time it will free up a lot. Best!

I got it into macro mode today! Once I got it in, I was able to work it in and out until it wasn't very difficult. No photos worth posting yet; it was dark when I got home this evening.

Thank you for your help!
