17-50 @ 50mm-(and a little pp in LR3)

and one @ 22mm, where the bokeh isn't quite as nice:

17-50 2.8 vs DA 16-45?

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there is anyone here that has used both the Tammy 17-50 2.8 AND the Pentax DA 16-45 F/4? Can you give me a brief synopsis on which you liked, and why? I am interested mainly in landscape and walk around use, so I have an interest in edge to edge sharpness, lens flare and contrast, though bokeh is also important. I do have the DA 15mm Ltd., so the difference in wide end is not as big a deal to me.

I've tried doing a few searches on this here and came up with absolutely nada, so my apologies if this has been covered ( I can't imagine that it HASN'T been covered).

Based on what I've seen, overall the 16-45 is a very good lens at a very good price.

The 17-50 however is an exceptionally outstanding fine lens that some folks even prefer its IQ over the DA*16-50! If I didn't have a Sigma 17-70, I would be all over the 17-50, but I paid dearly for my Sigma and the matching CPL. One thing the Sigma has over the Tammy is an extra 20mm at the long end and extremely close focusing, but other than that the Tammy is the better lens.

Another thumbs-up on the Tamron 17-50

I didn't own a comparable * at the time, but I was surprised at the performance.
However, I was concinced that I needed another lens and ended-up selling it for a telephoto I rarely ever use. So now... I'm reverting back to what I had(if I can).

Anyways, here are a few 17-50 vs 16-50 comparison articles that might prove helpful.

Terrific resources on those reviews and comparisons, thanks so much! Looks like my decision is made for the Tamron 17-50, thanks to the help of JHD and JohnBee! I'll post some pics once I get a hold of a lens.

My K-5 with DA 16-45 should arrive next Monday. I may sell it in favor of a Tamron 17-50.

Selling my 60-300 Adaptall-2 on the auction site that shall not be named. Ends today, and looks like it's going to go pretty cheap, unfortunately for me.

Congratulations on getting a fine camera--wish you many thousands of awesome shots. It looks like you took Frogfish's good advice some pages back. Sorry to hear about your 23a--I am still in love with mine and it has never looked so good now that it makes pics on Full frame, where it belongs. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots with your new gear.
