With DA*55, FA43, and A50 1.2 it's kind of hard to justify D-FA50 here too. And yeah - back on topic - D-FA* 70-200 is pretty hard to fault.

While it's on the clipboard, here's the lens at 200mm on the K-3 used for macro (cropped)

That's why I really think there is a market for a /f4 lens. I don't think Pentax is doing star lens with this aperture but I would be all over it.
Just grazing the beautiful images in this thread.

I’m at The Broadmoor (a revitalized 1800’s resort) in Colorado Springs for a week. I have the new D FA*50/1,4 and the Three Princesses with me but the weight of the 70~200 and/or 24~70 forced me to leave the big lenses home. I loaded my backpack with K-1, the two f/2.8 zooms and the *50/1.4 and walked around my neighborhood. I found it was just too much for me to carry, and at altitude I would be even less inclined to carry all that glass.

I adore the *70~200/2.8, but for me it is a monopod-only lens. That being said, I’ll never sell it and I’ll not add the f/4. I’ll just think about when I want to carry it and what I’ll carry with it.

BTW, the HD Pentax-D FA* 1:1.4 50mm SDM AW is a stellar lens. I can’t wait to get home and see what’s on my cards.

For me the weight of 70-200 +15-30+ 55 and tripod(small or big) is not too bad, I could even add Macro there..but it will be swetty ride. Then again, I’m pretty strong build. These are personal things. Looking at pictures from DFA*50 reminds me of 70-200, colour, rendering...it is tempting. Luckilly I’vburnt my lens budget. I’ll begin now saving for 85 now maybe for 50 too..good thing that I have more than year to do so

Nice one Sly. I might have to look at getting that lens or something like it...that said, the DA* 60-250 really draws me in....
