The ability to resolve at this level of crop is still rather mind boggling. (K1ii, Handheld, ISO250, 200mm, f4.5, 1/2000; exposure compensated raw.)

Yet another example of the ability to resolve at this level of crop. (K1ii, Handheld, ISO250, 200mm, f5.6, 1/100; exposure compensated raw.)

I perused this thread earlier this year to inform my decision on acquiring a copy of this lens. I hope the images below further cements the deal for someone else in similar shoes down the line!

It's unbelievable. It is too sharp as soon as it is at the largest aperture f2.8 and focal length 200mm. And the background is smooth. It is a lens that can be very good for the portrait genre. I will use it often in the near future.

Having recently had an earlier photo posted here featured on Ricoh/Pentax's "My Your Best Photo+", I shall continue my theme of birds with somewhat awkward expressions.

Right, now on to more serious stuff - do be careful when dealing with bees and whereby the 200mm reach is useful.

There is a physical limit though with the 1.2m minimum focusing distance but when you can get a tad closer and the light is on your side...

Eagle at the lake, 2021

The Pentax 70-200mm, f2.8 is a phenomenal lens, whether it's used in wildlife, sports events, or portrait shooting. You won't find a more trustworthy lens for clarity, weather-ready and durability. Paired with the K-3 Mark III, the results are consistently high quality and satisfying.

reliable tripod for this beast?

Hi,

So, after all these years, I just bought a used Pentax DFA 70-200 and joined this club.

For the moment I am getting to know it hand held. Of course, I am in dire need of a new tripod. I had a Rollei Beta Mark II bought via an Amazon Warehouse deal, but the tripod head was not stable enough for my Irix Dragonfly 2.8 150mm and so I had to return it without getting a new one.

Any recommendations? Something proven to work in the wild? I'm in Europe and hoping to spend no more than € 200 - 250. Carbon would be preferable, but not an absolute must.

I'd be grateful for any tips. Thanks!

Here's a decent handheld shot of a heron at 200mm, F 5.6, 1/750 sec. It's a crop of a jpg crop from my K1 II with only auto adjustments in Camera Raw.

Hi.

I know this post is over a year old, but I just joined this club. I am curious to know whether the shot was taken handheld? And if you don't mind me asking, what kind of post-processing did you do?
