Greatest lens ever? I doubt that. But it is a curious one that no doubt has generated a lot of conversation amongst photographers on line. For the price that it came out at (in Canada at least) it is a very nice lens: build quality (I'm always impressed by metal in this plasticky world), some of the features (has some, missing others), optics, and okay max aperture. If you have a decent lens collection already there may not be an overbearing need to go out and get it, as it may not really fill any holes in your line-up. And some of the shortcomings have been pointed out by ogl, Mr Chong, and a few others.
But for me, and this depends very much on your shooting style, it is one of those "if I only could have one lens" choices. It may not be the all-around best macro (focal length), it may not exhibit the best bokeh, but the vast array of things I can do with it, from some landscape, some portraits, the close focus capabilities for things other than macro, street photography, product shots/stills, plus some macro (other than small creatures), etc etc and all with great colour, sharpness and little to no distortion/artifacts...it's pretty incredible, especially for the under $500 price tag it had a year or so ago!

Absolutely pristine shot of why I love this lens...I can't wait until I can get out and really use the thing...your shot does a far better job that one of my early attempts at testing the macro with this shot at near to 1:1:

to really see the detail click on the image and look at the original size and no there are no surprises hiding my my nose...ick!!

Awful, huh? but you really need to look at the larger version and the mustache hairs to see what I find nice about the shot...there is a lot of detail in there...as marginally acceptable as the subject is, I feel show the detail level the lens will deliver....honestly I like your shot a LOT better...hehehehe...

awwww....c'mon 'guys'!!!! hehehehe...I was just being silly....and really I was stuck by the detail/somewhat surreal look of the mustache hairs at full size, you do realize it is a macro, right?

Plus compared to the AMAZING leaf shot it makes that shot look even better...sort of a beauty and the beast kinda thing...hehehe...

It also remined me of something, I don't get gray hairs...they go directly to white...no grey in the middle...I guess as you get old some some things seem funnier than once upon a time.

I know I'm late on this thread like really really late but 2 things:

1) That mustache pic is disturbing to the point where i want to shave mind

2) I'm seriously thinking about trading my DA* 16-50 for the DA 35ltd + cold cash. This lens is beyond belief.

Does it really matter? It's always the photographer, not the camera.

Some of the shots were taken with the k-7, others with the k10d.

exif is intact for all the photos.
edit: oooops, some photos do not have exif. anyway, the photos without exif were taken with the k10d.
