I was forced to rely on my $10 MC Finex 70-200 f/4 for a concert while my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 was being repaired. For being a tiny percentage of the price, it did a pretty good job in tough lighting conditions and from far away:

A while back I bought a Pentacon Electric 1.8/50mm for my brother in law (for the Praktica I'd given him the year before). Nice lens, very close focus. I did manage a few test shots...

55 f/2 for $10 with a spotmatic on craigslist. Gave the spotmatic to my neighbor for a beer.
FA 100 macro f/3.5 macro for $10 on craigslist.
Auto Sears 28 f/2.8 for $5 at goodwill.
Super Takumar 200 f/4 for $4 at goodwill.
Zebra Auto Takumar 55 f/1.8 for $20 from an old camera shop.
Preset Auto Takumar 105 f/2.8 for $40 from the same old camera shop.

All in all, I have 8 or 9 lenses, three 2x teleconverters, an AF220 flash and some filters that I think I have spent a total of $120 for everything. Not quite a lens, but I just picked up a K10D with three batteries for free when I bought an the battery grip for $100. The base plate on the K10D broke and he didn't want it anymore. Camera works great. It feels like it AF's faster than my K10D I bought new a year ago. I just ordered all the necessary parts from Pentax this morning to fix it. $7.10 in parts, $8 dollars in shipping.

camera shop.
Craigslist I watch but NEVER a pentax lens in my area, my brother doesnt drink beer but i always did wonder if the Goodwill's of the world sell SLR stuff or if they have some deal where its gone before it hits the shelf. You answered that for me. I WILL hit a few of the charity thrifts tomorrow just to see. However, I stand by my spotless B&H find for now. Clicking is so much easier than actually going out...

The hunt is the best part. Next to taking photos. I love going to thrift stores and hoping to find a gem for the price of a pack of smokes. I picked up a minolta rokkor 58mm 1.2 for nothing. I haven't gotten around to do the conversion yet. Go to a thrift store now, I am.

Classy shot !

Here's that Pentacon on a Panagor Tele Macronet 3x converter (good combo)

Walk away from the screen and see the arrow getting white (well sort of gray)
That's your mouse pointer on a windows 'classic' screen (TFT monitor)

Freebie at a yard sale:

Macro-Ennalyt 35mm 2.8

I had to dismantle the lens to clean it. Pretty sure I finally got the elements back in the right order.

Nice shot, no? Fujica ST605n, Fujinon 55/2.2, CVS ASA400 film. The film cost more than the camera. I paid $3 for the damn thing:

Now, the camera itself works OK, only problem is the bottom was flapping so I had to put a screw in it, and there's no rewind button. And using a pen to push in didn't work.

The lens also works well, as you can see above, but someone has chipped off nearly all of the focus ring, exposing the metal and the helicoid beneath.

So if the kit is $3, you gotta figure the skylight filter's at least $1, and the camera $5, so I figure the lens is worth a negative $3.

Nesster...I think you won the prize. That has to be the nastiest looking lens I have ever seen. The pictures isn't bad, though the bokeh reminds me of my XR Rikenon 50/2.

Less than a month ago I found a "lot" on Craigslist for a Pentax camera and lenses for $25. It was in a little thrift shop, they were happy to sell it their full asking price. This was all loaded into a brief case with custom fit foam rubber, the stuff was in great shape. It included an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, Super Takamar 135mm f3.5, Two Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4, AUTO Mamiya/Sekor SX 21mm f4.0, Vivitar 35mm 1:1.9 Auto Wide-Angle, Soligor Miranda 250mm f4.5, Aetna Extension Tubes, Chelsea 2X Teleconverter, Lentar 3X Teleconverter, Honeywell Pentax Bellows, and a Prontor shutter release cable. All but one of the lens had filters and both caps. The Soligar was not an M42 lens. I had to spend $35 for an M42 adapter so I could use these lens on my K20D.

I’ve also sold the Soligar, Aetna tubes, the Super Tak 135, and one of the Super Tak 50s on Ebay for $151 (before Ebay took their 8%). All in all a spectacular deal for me.

Right now I’m shooting a roll of film in the Spotmatic with the Mamiya 21. I would love to keep the lens but as I understand it, the SX series won’t properly mount on a Pentax DSLR because of an aperture pin and the aperture ring. The pin would be an easy fix, but the ring would press against the K20D body, I would need to disassemble it and have it machined to fit.

Here’s a couple of sample shots: Vivitar 35/1.9, Mamiya Sekor 21/4

Hmm, I'm impressed by some of the acquisitions made here. I've seen the Vivitar 70-210 going for prices 10x larger than those paid here.

My best purchase of a cheap, not that well-known lens was made on ebay: a Petri 55mm f/1.8 (M42) - it's as good as the Takumar 55/1.8, but it might have just a bit harsher bokeh. Some cents short of $25 including shipping.
