Jos - With pop up flash? Well done! Did you use anything to diffuse or reflect it?

I guess using the pop-up is maybe an advantage of the 50mm (and DA 35mm limited macro?). Im guessing that the bigger macro lenses can possibly block out the pop up flash at close quarters.

A snoot brings the light from the pop-up flash over the lens to the subject.
The snoot ends with a diffuser 9 x 8cm.
I use more snoots adapted to the lenght of the lens combination.
The shorter snoots have for diffuser a double layer of polystrene foam, the longer snoots a single layer.

It's working brilliantly!

Care to share a photo of the setup?

Thanks! You've inspired me to try something similar. I've rigged up diffusers from paper before but I like your less fragile arrangement - and your results speak for themselves.

Portrait of an owl:

LX, A 35-210mm at f8 and 210mm, XP2+, 1/250s.

The A 35-210 is a seriously good zoom.
