A Club 100 2.8 Macro

Hi all,

Raining all day here in Waterloo - emphasis on the water. A few from around the house today:

Cat's eye

Tool Time

I'm going to leave this one on the camera for while and see what I can come up with.

Cheers

I thought I know all the Pentaxians (part those interested in older lenses) in Toronto. Apparently it is not

A Club - 100 2.8 macro

Hi all,

Took the A 100 2.8 macro for a walk. Here’s a few from today.

Not a lot of activity in the A Club so far. To paraphrase Bart Simpson “Come on people – these A Lenses aren’t going to appreciate themselves.” There are a lot of "great" lenses in this series. The 84 1.4, 135 1.8, 200 f4 macro, 200 2.8, 300 2.8 etc. Anyone care to show us how good these lenses are?

Coming late to this thread I find the first few posts are exceptional, even for this forum. Jake, those are lovely shots full of the humanity of the subjects -- first two are absolutely first rate.

Nesster, yours have clarity when they need it and atmosphere when they need that. That this is all from the same lens shows great photographic control.

pasipasi, the smoke stack shot could be in an image library. jsherman999, love the second one of the crawling child. MrApollinax the first dog shot is rapid!

So much to enjoy here.

Oh, yes! Although my only A lens is the 28, I love it dearly.
Some more atmospheric rather than show-off how sharp and so on it is...
Nesster, I really like these photos. They came as a surprise to me because I have a A28/2.8 and I don't use it much. The reason is that I was rather disappointed with the results. The kit lens seemed to give me better results. A couple of weeks ago I took the A28 out again after 6 months and took some close ups and was quite pleased with those, and thought that perhaps I would be better to use it like that. But your pictures show that it is good for other types of pictures too.

So basically, I am not using the lens right. Any tips on how I can use this lens better because clearly you are doing something right with it.

Richard, thank you for such a nice compliment!

I just go and use it, often as the only lens I use. Because it isn't the same contrast and saturation technicolor beast most other Pentax lenses are, a bit of post processing for both goes a long way, and brings out its natural resolution - it does resolve, and quite a bit too!

I don't know what Pentax did differently with the A, it should be the same formula s the M. But maybe they did something with coatings etc.

I've just got back from a walk through the local wheat fields and took my A28/2.8. Admittedly today is overcast (what? Richard lives in England, what else should he expect?!) so I shouldn't expect too much, but as you say the contrast and colour are, well, a bit washy. But yes, it is sharp. I need to practice my post process!

Don't knock that lens, it is a GREAT performer stopped down only one or two notches! Very deserving of an excellent reputation, just overshadowed a bit. I actually carry one in my bag 24/7. Use it often & learn to love it.

???

I think you misunderstood my post. I merely stated that it is less desireable than its faster brothers which is pretty much true. If you look at review I gave for the lens you'll see that I actually like the lens!
