An A lens will work with a flash without any limitations, as long as it's in the A position.

There's lots of ifs and buts here, especially for off-camera flash. Best head to the Flash forum and start a new thread... For example, if you want your onboard flash to trigger an off-camera flash without P-TTL you need to move out of the A position.

I've never tried it but it makes sense - if you're doing that, then you're already doing everything manually anyway. I think he wanted to know about auto modes, which means PTTL.

The second to last shot is really cool!

Thanks Matt

Too bad the background wasn't a little nicer but they don't always stop in the best locations do they?

One with the 50 f1.7 - Not my normal lens for landscape shots but I took it along on this occasion. A nice old lens.

Thank you! I saw your photos and those from others, and I thought: what the heck. I once had the F* 300mm f/4.5 ED [IF] (which is a superb lens) but the photos from the A* 300/4 looked at least as good. And since I like MF lenses and the big front element is way cool...

Well that's on the life list. Good for you!

You have the best lenses (but you'll need to update your signature )

I love that front element too! I don't have any filter$ for it but that doesn't seem to matter much from what I have seen.
I also love how compact it is for 300mm f/4! I got a great deal on mine as part of a package. I don't see myself selling it anytime soon...

Thanks!

I wanted to know if the A* 300/4 contains ED elements. And in dealer material from that era (scanned by George de Fockert: http://fockert.xs4all.nl/~pentax/catalog/05_Objectieven_Filters_Adapters.pdf) it's clearly stated that both the M* and the A* versions have ED elements. In the case of the A* it's even part of the official name, although it's not engraved on the lens itself.

So now we know why it has the green star.
