Great set of photos.
How did you get an A 300 on a 67II?
I presumed it was an "A" but I think you're right, it's not an "A" lens. Sorry about that. Great shot btw....

Well, I've been bitten by the A bug.

I've had an A50/1.7 for a couple weeks and just fell in love again with the solid feel, damped focus, etc. Since then I've located:
  • A200/4 which I just received yesterday...only shot once with it but I like what I see. I just switched to the EE-S screen and I think the tele lens has shown I have just a tad of a shimming issue to resolve.
  • A135/2.8 which should arrive early in the week.
  • A28/2.8 which should also arrive early in the week.
  • And just a few minutes ago, an A24-50/4 at KEH in EX condition for what I think was a palty $85! It was the one A zoom that intrigued me after reading ALL the A lens reviews.
  • I also have a line on an A100/2.8. Long shot but I hope that acquisition works out too.
The one I'd really like to fill in is the A35/2.8. I'll be keeping an eye out.

Winter is fast approaching here in MN...but I hope to shoot with these wonderful lenses some before we get sequestered for the next few months

Any other As I should be on the lookout for?

Bonjour,

I would suggest the A 35-105 f3.5 ... I have one and it's very good. Also have an A 50 f1.7 & an A 35-70 f3.5-4.5 ... The 50 is super like you described.

Salut, John le Frog

I'm glad you got the A24-50 at KEH, I was probably just a click away from that one. Let me know how it performs, the reviews are bit skewed IMO which is the only reason I didn't get it but still, I envy you and that little zoom

(also, the price seemed so low that it worried me as well)

The 35-105/3.5 is a super super lens. I have the A100/2.8 which doesn't do anything for me that the 35-105 cannot...

I'll suggest the A35-70/4 - mine stayed on my camera for a couple months this past summer. Super sharpness, colors & contrast, plus a very capable close-up mode. I was extremely impressed with this lens, esp. for the price. SMC Pentax-A 35-70mm F4 Reviews - A Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

I have the M version of the 100mm which I believe is optically the same, and the A35-105. The main thing I would say is that the 100mm is small and light and the 35-105 is a tank... I'm very fond of my M100 and use it a great deal.

Yes, it's quite a tank the zoom and oh so very compact the 100. The 100 is a superb lens in all ways but I have not been able to find that sweet combo of speed with DOF considering the reputation of the lens. If I take a photo, I like to see the entire subject in focus with not so much OOF areas. The 35-105 lets me do this at average distances and almost wide open. I have yet find that acceptable distance and f stop combo with the 100.

Below, I hope somewhat illustrates what I mean. Both focused Ok on the box, but it's the stem on the apple (a few inches away) that shows how shallow the DOF is on the 100 v 35-105. Both shot at f3.5 and you can already see the zoom has more DOF wide open. I've tried the 100 at f5.6 and it's almost (not quite) identical but I'm now losing speed (probably 1.5 stops) and not much IQ over the zoom. **This is not a scientific/controlled test, hand held, JPEG's and a pint or 2

Uncropped...

Went out with the A200/4 since we had a nice sunny day today. I'm really impressed. A couple (neither are crops at all and straight OOC, resized by SmugMug):
