Matt, I enjoyed you photos with Leica lenses. I have a few M and R lens that I would like to use on a digital body but I am not sure which body to use. I really don't want to change the mount so do you have any suggestions for me as to the camera body to use with my R lenses? Thanks
Hi bscott,
the only OVF FF digital bodies you can use with Leica-R lenses without changing original mount are Canons'. You can use adapter on Sony A7xII for both Leica-R and Leica-M lenses. You can even have autocus with Leica lenses on Sony A7xII...

Hello everybody,
this is my first post about my Leica-R lenses on Pentax K-1. I gave two delicate lenses to transform in Leitax Mount thanks to David Llado (who is living nearby) which are Leica Summicron-R Apo Asph 90/2 & Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60/2.8. I went and got them. I have some other Leica-R lenses to switch by myself soon. But today, before coming back home, I only tried the Macro-Elmarit-R 60/2.8 in Girona.. The ones taken inside were between 1/13s and 1/50s hand held (thanks to IBIS/SR) and the ones in the restaurant with my wife were shot W.O..
Good night..

A 100% crop of the second one taken in a shop in Girona, Iso500 1/50s f:4.0.. Processed in DxO Optics Pro 11 (denoising with prime) and sent in LR6 (distortion process but there is nearly none for Macro-Elmarit), and finshing in Piccure+ lens correction (No aberration process, just rendering between 3 and 10)... The crop of the third one about my wife's hands, Iso800 1/15s W.O. All shots Hand held and Manual focus of course.

well one can surely see the 'leica look' in these photos. does the mount conversion allow for auto metering, or is it a 'green button' affair?

Nice results there from the 60/2.8. Leica lenses definitely out-resolve the sensor for sure. Looking forward to the 90/2 results as I've been wanting to get both of these lenses.

From what I saw when my lens guy switched the mounts, it is very easy, and took less than 5 minutes. You don't exactly lose auto metering, you can use Av mode which automatically adjusts exposure based on the set aperture. You just can't adjust aperture through the camera.

Yes it does allow for metering including Multizone one in Av and (perhaps) in M mode. I actually was astonished, I thought Multizone wouldn't have been supported as well as autofocus tracking... Anyway, most of the time, I frame before focusing and don't have to focuse first and then frame, it's quicker. Nevertheless, metering compensation is -1IL for this lens. It changes with the lenses and sometimes depends on aperture. But I'm used to it, since I have been having digital cameras (EOS 5D, 5D MKII and 6D until K-1). I don't know if NR and (Highlight, shadow) dynamic adjustment work on RAW files, but I disconnected all of them. I do not need "green button" except if I want "Auto Iso". I programmed it from 100 to 800 in low Iso/low speed priority.

Yes, you are right, I was afraid of that on a big sensor (more than 20MP) but I am pleasantly surprised. Bokeh is beautiful and microcontrast as well.

You will have to wait a little bit I'm afraid...

It will be a LONG wait, the Leica-R 90mm f/2 is a superb lens, and still commands a high price. But like most R lenses it is surpassed by the Leica-M APO-Summicron 90mm f/2 ASPH.

Hello Digitalis,
these two lenses share exactly the same optical formula. Besides the Leica-R one can focuse to 70cm while the Leica-M one can only focuse to 1m. Using a M-Mount 90mm is much more hasardous IMHO to use (with a Leica-M) than the R-Mount, capturing images philosophy is different between the two systems.
So how can you tell it is different? Did you reed it or did you make your own tests?
Best regards.

When you mean the second version, you mean the Apo Apsh one? Actually, IMHO, the one to buy for the bokeh is the non-Apo one. Its appearance looks like very much the Apo lens but it is not written Apo nor Asph on the lens and costs third the price of the Apo.

Incorrect, the early Leica-R summicron 90mm f/2 is not apochromatic. The Leica-M APO-Summicron 90mm f/2 is apochomatic*. There was an apochrmoatic version of the R series 90mm f/2 - though these are incredibly rare, last one I saw was selling in a private auction with a starting bid of of $5000USD, which escalated to over 8000USD. A steep price indeed, but not uncommon for such legendary optics.

This has more to do with the inherent technical difficulties encountered with RF cameras than any shortcoming of the lens itself.

*and also, still in production. Unlike the R series lenses ever since the Leica DMR turned out to be such a flop.
