Hi Ducatigaz, Wow, that's an impressive line up alright & the (your?) garage is spotless... I'm impressed! is that a Trans am or a Camaro hiding over the back there?

My car is a '68 Dodge Coronet 500 hard top, with the 440 Magnum engine and 4 speed manual transmission, the other one is a 69. the '68 '69 '70 Charger was built on the Coronet platform (and shares a lot of components) as the Coronet has been around for much longer & the Charger was an off-shoot of the Coronet. cheers

Between the pair of you, all these super-bikes and muscle cars, I'm feeling the "need for speed" and it's your faults.

Hmm... Shall I use the Toyota Prius of the Fiat Panda.

P.S. Just joking I don't have either, just before any of the little street cred I have left, departs me faster the a flaming arrow.

Why is there some many vehicles there, what's going on?
Thanks kerrowdown. My vantage point is the pedestrian walkway on the new bridge that carries all of the highway traffic now. The road below is the old highway crossing the dam. The cars below are all tourists. Many thousands visit the dam each year for tours. The history and impressive engineering is worth learning about. The Hoover Dam is located near Las Vegas and is a popular day-trip for the millions of tourists that visit there every year. All of the traffic below already waited in long lines (about 30 minutes) to get through the security checkpoints. It has been about 20 years since I toured the dam.

Another FE view of the bridge, which is always crowded with pedestrians. (The bridge shakes with the truck traffic.)

It sucks how things have changed since 9/11. The actions of those who have hate in their hearts have set in motion changes that continually erode our freedom.

It has been about 14 years since I was there. My partner and I sat through a time share sales pitch just for the 3 days 2 nights flight and room in Vegas. When we got to the airport I rented a Crown Vic, then checked into the room. The next stop was a grocery store, where I picked up a cheap styrofoam cooler, ice and beer. We spent most of the 3 days sightseeing. Went to the Nye Valley, Area 51, the Valley of Fire, the (still relatively new) Las Vegas speedway, and Hoover Dam.

We only spent a few hours on the Strip, visited the car collection at the Imperial Palace casino, went to the top of the Straosphere, rode the coaster at the New York casino.

The only gambling we did was at the airport as we were leaving. As we were walking down the jetway to our gate I saw a One Armed Bandit. I had two quarters in my pocket, stuck them in one at a time and pulled the handle. As the dials were spinning on the second quarter, one at a time each one stopped, and when the last one finished they all matched.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

I grabbed a plastic tub as quarters began pouring out.

That 50¢ got me $50!

Immediately people flocked around me and that slot machine. As soon as I walked away with my bucket of quarters the sheeple began shouldering each other to try and play that machine.

After coveting the DA 10-17 for a while, I finally got one! Still figuring out the lens but we recently went to Shedd Aquarium and it was CRAZY CROWDED in there. I found the 10-17 to be awesome because I could squeeze right up to the glass and still get a huge field of view. The glass was pretty scratched up in many cases and I managed to catch quite a few reflections of the crowd as well but here's a few that turned out ok.

Very nice. Can you fit a polarizer on the 10-17?

I like how you're thinking... to cut down on reflections right? Unfortunately, no... well, not in any normal way ;-) There's no filter threads or anything and it's quite "fishy" in front too... I suppose if you tried really hard, something could be fashioned with gaffer's tape and a butchered hood but in the end, it would cause tremendous vignetting if it even worked at all.

Conkin I think still makes a large filter holder that is several times the size of the front of the lens and does not attach with filter threads. you then buy the type of large polarizer you wish to use. This is an expensive system but I think it can be moved from lens to lens for versatility. I think( or hope) that it would be just far enough in front to miss the front element and wide enough to limit the vignetting. I have only seen this used on long telephoto lenses. I think it is 120mm or 140mm across the square box for the filters. Might be bigger. Hope that helps.

Very cool tip! I've never really looked at Cokin filters before. Looks like their X-Pro series goes big enough but by the time you buy the filter, a holder and adapter rings to attach it, you'll have spent more than the cost of the lens! If you're earning money from your images, that's really not all bad, but it's out of my league... for now.

Thanks for coming back and giving some more insight to The Hoover Dam, guess it will have to go on the bucket list as well.

I hope I get plenty warning when it's my time, cos that list is getting pretty big now.

I think it is Conkin but it might be someone else. I was looking at it for the end of my 800mm f8 to polarize and that lens is 112mm out there. I didn't do it for I know use it on the DSLR and it needs about a full stop down to return properly exposed images. I mean I set the lens at f16 and tell the camera f8 and it comes out good. All my long lenses work the same way. I have been told it is because of the extra light thrown around the sensor by the FF lens that make the camera see a brighter image. If you don't stop down you get weird ghosts/ aberrations and other stuff. My 400 f5 medium format is especially bad and in sunlight I stop down to f16 to f32 to limit the problems.
