Just wanted to say that I read (most of) your review, and found it very complete, well written, and quite understandable. I learned much more about these four lenses than I ever thought I wanted to know. :>) You have performed an excellent, fantastic service, and I would like to express my thanks to you. I have the 10-17 as well as the Rokinon 8mm, and in fact believe as apparently you do that the 10-17 is so well constructed and flexible that it pretty well answers any fisheye need that I can imagine having.
Thanks. I'm not sure if you are referring to my recent review of the HD version of the Pentax fisheye, or the comparison between 4 ultra wide lenses that was written in 2016? That one is fantastic, but not by me.

Good point. I read the comparison one first, not quite sure how I landed up there, and then after realizing my mistake moved over and read your actual review. The comparison review was masterful and so complete I could not devote the time to finish it, but I found your own review equally valuable, particularly since I would love to sell my 10-17 and get the HD version so I can take round fishneye photos.

Feel free to ask questions about it. I learned a lot testing the lens and reading this thread!
Just finished reading. Thanks for taking the time to do the review.

Between photos and the review, it's on my list for my K-1.

The comparison is indeed stellar work.

It's impressive, but maybe not surprising, how many people are interested in that lens for the K-1. Pentax did a great move by simply removing the hood (the coatings are a welcome addition, but by themselves probably not enough to upgrade).

Original FE image and version de-fished enough to flatten the horizon line. The latter looks like a more exciting bridge to drive.

Looks like a 1930s era bridge, maybe 1920s, with the bridge and decking all made from small pieces of steel jointed on-site.

From the days when materials were expensive, heavy machinery not available and labour relatively cheap.

Now the construction is very different because of a different balance in those factors.

FYI: The Sydney Harbor Bridge was started in 1923, officially opened 1932, so your deduction about the era based on the design was spot-on.

My first outing with the DA 10-17 fisheye zoom I just bought off the forum. Bow Ridge tunnel and bridges at the Conemaugh Dam, Indiana County, PA.

I had an uncle whose first job as a graduate civil engineer was on SHB.

My deduction was based on some bridges of different eras across the river in Chicago where the reasoning dawned on me.

The high labour design might also have been a ‘make work’ project for the depression.

But also the available technology and the paradigm of how to build a bridge of that size. Cable-stay was unknown, and I don't think that very long pre-stressed concrete roadbed was available either. Unless I am mistaken, in the 1920's spans of that length were either suspension or one of a bewildering variety of open-ironwork truss designs, with an arch being best for longer spans.
