Bower 8mm

I like this lens a lot because its fisheye effect is not as pronounced as in other lenses.

Two shots from Bellevue, WA, both at f/5.6:

By pointing a FE lens up or down you can really bend things around.

This is a recent sunset I got with the DA 10-17, the first getting in the whole sky and second, a less fishy view.

I really love your shots. I noticed that you also have 21mm and 12-24. I have 15, 21 and 10-17. I won't go for 12-24 as I am not a landscape purist and I prefer something lighter. But I have to ask if I ever want to get something like Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 10-24, will the rectilinear lens make my fish-eye hide in the corners. Distortion such as yours adds value as unique view but I am loaded with lens and I wonder if I should consider trimming my 21 and 10-17 and replace the two with a rectilinear lens such as Sigma 10-20 or Tamron 10-24.

Any comments from you and others are very welcome

Whether it hides or not will depend on how much you love the 10-17! I have the 10-20 and they both have their purposes. Fisheye is just more fun, and imho more usable for party / extreme closeups.

If you're selling your 21, let me know

Thank you !

Let's compare :

DA 12-24 f:4...........430gr.....72mm
S. 10-20 f:4-5.6.......470gr.....77mm
S. 10-20 f:3.5 HSM.....520gr.....82mm
T. 10-24 f:3.5-4.5.....405gr.....77mm

I simply love the quality of my DA 12-24. Not only for landscapes, but also for portraits, architecture, etc...
And the gain of 2mm gives you less sharpness in the corners...

Don't get confused with 10 or 12mm and 10mm fisheye. It is not the same angle (99° for 12mm, 102° for 10mm and 180° for 10mm fisheye).

I would never trade my 10-17 and/or my 21 for my 12-24 or vice-versa !

I often take my 21 if I want to be discrete or if I am on my bicycle...

Thank you Andy and it will a while before I come to my senses.

Thank you so much for the inputs. I may have the combination right for myself and I usually take the wrong step and get my line-up of lens more weird than before. I do love the 21mm for street shooting and the 10-17 is most fun go-to family lens that I often like to bring along for visit to interesting places that the distortion adds to the fun factor with a wowing angle of view. I have to work on my acceptance of 15 and 21 co-existing together as a pair instead of competing lens in the wide end.

Warmest,
Hin

fishy morning clouds

Things just sorta lined up at sunrise this morning- 1) it was cloudy, 2) the DA 10-17 was on the camera, and 3) I was up.

Shot looking straight up.

I really want to thank fs999 and Andi on reminding me that 10-17 has its important place in my gear -- the Fun Factor. I hate how lba and down-sizing to fight lba sometime lead me into the very wrong thinking in the cutting just for the sake of getting less. That 10-17 fish-eye is special and the extraordinary view that it gives add character and dimension to interesting places. I just shot these yesterday after seeing the response to my questions from fs999 and Andi

1/20sec, f/3.5, 10mm, iso 2000, 0 Ev, K-x

1/10sec, f/4.5, 10mm, iso 3200, 0 Ev, K-x

Thank you guys in straightening (fishing-eying) me out,
Hin

I will trade your version of morning cloudy for mine any day. Yesterday morning started solid gray and finished solid gray. There are some very real benefits to living on "east of the mountains".
