I've not actually tried the sweets, but durian is more a smell experience than taste - putrid flesh wrapped in old socks to some, heavenly ecstasy to others. In my car hire contract in Malaysia it stated that an extra day rental will be payable if durians are brought anywhere near the vehicle.

Mangosteen, on the other hand, is really something else :

'Imagine the best peach you've ever eaten, combined with a touch of passion fruit, a sliver of nectarine and a nip of lychee. Imagine a concord grape's sweet purple essence giving way to the clean leanness of a Granny Smith. Add a squeeze of lime, and a spoon of buttery brown sugar. Stir.'

from Fruit That's Worth a Trip to Thailand - Jarrett Wrisley - Life - The Atlantic

I doubt that the sweets come anywhere near the real thing though.

extravagrant - I love, love, love the bean. The last time I was in Chicago (a couple of years ago now) I had just purchased my lensbaby and I went nuts with bean pics. I could have spend days shooting it. I didn't have my fisheye yet, but the bean is a perfect fisheye subject!
