I am hoping for success this time after Keh let me down by sending out a lens with broken AF. The lens I ordered this time is advertised as Mint+ for $1,079 plus $30 freight. When the lens arrives, I will contact LeRolls about getting some models to use with this lens.
Not a bad price if it truly is in mint condition. As far as the models are concerned, you can ask but I can't make any promises.

Other kind of top model

I don't know if my copy has a problem as the price was (very relatively) low...

Problems joining this club

Someone advise me:

1. I purchased the Pentax-FA 85mm f 1.4 from Keh and returned it for full refund because AF did not work.

2. Today I just got it the same lens from a Japanese supplier Ryousan, and again the AF does not work.

I tried both lenses on K-1, K-3, and K5II. Other AF lenses focussed perfectly, but the 85 1.4 did not. I cannot see any switch, button, or what have you on the 85 that would turn AF on or off. Obviously, I have the focus switch on the left side of all the cameras set to AF.
It just seems to be too much of a coincidence that two consecutive copies of this lens (both in perfect cosmetic condition, both capable of outstanding manual focus results) have broken/failed AF features.

I cannot think of anything that I am doing wrong. It seems that the fates of photography are conspiring against me to keep me out of this distinguished club. Please help with advice and suggestions on the AF failure--or anything you think relevant.

AF does not work on the second lens either. See my post of today!

I am a member of the club!

I finally figured it out . . . boy do I feel stupid! This lens has a black band around the lens at the end of the lens right before the hood. This black ring/rubbarized grip pushes forward/toward the hood to place the lens in AF mode, and when pushed forward it reveals the words "auto focus."

So, I am supposing that the lens I returned to Keh was also a good lens.

All's well that ends well.

Now I need to get to work to create some postings.

First posting as new club member--my friend Bill.

Well, this took some time, but here is my first portrait with my new Pentax 85/1.4. I definitely have some work to do in positioning focus plane exactly where I want it because in this photo I have the wrong eye in focus.
Hey, it is a start, and I have no intention of competing directly with LeRolls.

A few shots

I am finding that I like this lens for landscape as well as portraiture.

K-1 with Pentax 85mm f 1.4

NOTE: Here is another vertical format printed sideways by Pentax Forum. I wish someone could tell me how to keep this from happening.
