A few months ago I bought a composer pro II with the sweet 50 optic.

It's much easier to use, but it gives different results from the control freak. I have to really get acquainted with this lens.

Here's probably my best shot taken with the control freak. This was taken in 2015.It's post #3147.

I would love to get a velvet 56, but I'm always buying guitars, bicycles and other things that take money away from my photography hobby.

Those are some great shots Mike!

Nice shot indeed.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, I'm not sure what a 'control freak', 'composer pro II' and 'sweet 50' is (tho I think the sweet 50 is a lensbaby lens? Wasn't 'sweet' the name of some of the lensbabies line up? I must go and swat and do some homework, I really need to find out what all the different lensbaby lenses there are.

The Control Freak and Composer Pro are tilt lenses with interchangeable optics. Not sure if the Control Freak still is in production. The Sweet 50 is one of the optics you can use with the Composer and Freak.

I have an older Composer Pro (not II) and a "Double Glass 50", a predecessor to the Sweet 50, I guess.

The Control Freak:

I have the original Composer Pro also, but with the double glass, single glass, and plastic optics (all 50mm) and I have the close focus filters set they sold. The Composer is a good one, but I should get the 35mm optic.

Yes, I have also eyed the 35mm. The 50 can be a bit tight, at least on APS-C.

I think you will be happy with the any of the 35 mm Optics. I've been happy with the results I've gotten with the Sweet 35 and Composer Pro Tilt Shift mount

Whose up for some Lensbaby Velvet 56 pics?!

First up the Lens on the K-1

A series of shots taken at the aperture points/clicks on the aperture ring/dial. Focus is on the bottle label.

@f1.6

@f2

@f2.8

@f4 (still misty but showing real potential. Remember this is sooc, no editing or sharpening, you could work wonders here in post with boosting clarity and sharpening to areas you want).

@f5.6 (the sweet spot)

@f8

@f11

@f16

You can shoot between the aperture clicks/points, this one taken somewhere between f2.8 and f4

A double exposure (composite average) in camera shot, f2 with f8

Same again, this time f11 with f1.6

This shot a combination of f4 and f5.6 but not done in camera instead in post. Only the label is f5.6, the rest of the image f4.

Ok some real pics now (edited properly of course);

3.@f2 (I think)

5.@f2.8 I think

6.@f5.6 or 8

Hi everyone. I recently bought a lensbaby composer secondhand with what I thought had a Sweet 35 included, to found out when it was delivered it also included the double glass 50mm.

Wow, a lensbaby makes you work for a picture.... but I managed to get some reasonable images out of them. Starting with the dog ( my first subject for all new lenses :-). Double glass 50, fully open.

Excellent work!

Do you have a link to the lenses you use/d?

Not bad concidering you're using a lens that's not a lens (if I understood Frederic correctly)

It's the same I use. It's no longer in production:
(Refurbished) Composer Pro with Double Glass | Creative Effect Camera Lenses | Lensbaby

Replaced by this, I guess:
Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic | Lens | Lensbaby

That it does! You're doing well, though. And it becomes easier with practice. I think

Ah so it is a tilt shifty kinda lens. Your doggo pics are better than the sample ones But no really, it doesn't look like much tilt shifting going on in those shots, just a pleasing DoF thing going on... did you enable any tilting for them?

Thanks. Its “tilt shifty” indeed, but only a relatively small spot will be in focus. Where in the picture, you can influence yourself by moving the front element.

In the first picture, the left eye ( i mean the dogs right eye which is on the left of the picture) is in focus, while the right eye isnt, even though the distance to the lens is the same.

In the second picture a part of the mouth as well as the eye are in focus and sharp even when other areas the same distance are not.

But I like that its not so obvious in the pictures, because I dont want them to be about the lens, but about what i photograph, or try to convey. ( which is only “ nice dog isnt it” in these pictures, bythe way ;-). )
