I've just discovered this thread as I learn to us my newly acquired Lensbaby Composer Pro Sweet 35
I know I have a long way to go and a lot more practice shots to become proficient with the lens but here is a sample of my first couple steps down that road using the lens.

Lesson 1 learned even though I did this shot handheld its probably better to use a tripod

Very nice! You are right about the tripod, especially for close-ups. For hand-held shooting I also find it challenging to know exactly where I have placed the sweetspot in the frame. I usually enable live view and point the camera at the ground or a wall so that I can use focus peaking to get the spot where I want it. Then I lock down the lens position and go back to using the view finder.

I've recently been experimenting with a Ketnor .42 Fish eye/Macro adapter mounted on a Sweet 35 Optic with some interesting results. The adapter does severely limit the Tilt Shift of the lens but where the adapter and the lens filter thread are 46mm. It gives complete frame coverage without creating the "Peep Hole" effect, widens the field of view beyond 35mm and creates an almost explosive Bokeh effect on a shallow Depth of Field

Interesting experiment. I did get a cheap wide angle filter with the intention of trying it on the Composer 50 but it turned out to be of such awful quality that it is of no use at all. Your Ketnor looks to be in a different league altogether.

Thanks for sharing!

I got fed up with all the new DFA 50/1.4 sharp high quality pictures... so I went in the other direction and ordered a Lensbaby 56/1.6

Looking forward to posting some shots in here, what's everyone using? This thread still active?

Yes, Bruce, this thread is still active, although sometimes there are no new posts for months.

I should add some new Lensbaby images myself.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your images with the Velvet 56.

We’re still here, but as mentioned, we don’t post here that often. I should really put my composer on the K-1 and spend a day with it...

It's about time and a good reminder for me to get mine out too. I'm still keeping a sharp eye for bargains on more optics like the Sweet 80, Sweet 50 or Creative Bokeh Optic to go with my Sweet 35

What's the general deal with the 56/1.6 anyway, I mean 1 review on PF for it, and it seems well received on other sites etc. How come so little love? Just because it's a niche lens?

I have an old control freak, and it took a while for me to get used to it, I mean about a year until I was getting images I liked.

A few months ago I bought a composer pro II with the sweet 50 optic.

It's much easier to use, but it gives different results from the control freak. I have to really get acquainted with this lens.

Here's probably my best shot taken with the control freak. This was taken in 2015.It's post #3147.

I would love to get a velvet 56, but I'm always buying guitars, bicycles and other things that take money away from my photography hobby.
