K-1 with Pentax-A 645 120mm macro

Couple of shots with one of best macro lenses available in medium format, in my humble but untrained opinion. :>)

KIT: Pentax K-1 with adapted Pentax-A 645 120mm f 4.0--shooting wide open.

Flowers with K-1 and Pentax-A 120mm f 4.0 macro

The Pentax-A 645 120mm macro has quickly become my lens of choice for flower photography, and I like using it on the K-1 (as well as the 120-FA auto-focus version on the 645D). Actually, the manual focus A version is perfect for flower photography as I always hand focus any way. The attached photos were all JPEGs right out of the camera with no cropping or other post processing. This is one of the best lenses I have ever used in terms of producing results with no post processing.

Great macro flower photo. The K-1 and the 120mm are a great combo team. I also use this team for my flower photography.

Thanks Ivan! I only wish that I could shoot more photos like this.

Pentax 67 55mm f 4.0 on the K-1.

The 67 55mm/4.0 is in my view is among the greatest lenses ever produced by Pentax. Mostly I use it for flower photograpy, which may sound odd given its wide angle FOV. However it is a very close focussing lens, one of its great charms, and it is easy to move in close and fill the frame with blossoms. No flowers in northern Ohio in early December, so I am using the lens in landscape service, which service it performs very well . . . but you can be the judge.

Lovely feeling of depth and three-dimensional "pop" in the snowy scenes. The 67 lenses are tempting but I don't want yet another system and format at this point, so I'll stick to my 645 lenses on the K-1, which I used a lot for fall color photography last month. Often with the A55/2.8, as in this one:

Nice images. I don’t mean to sound sceptical but is there anything the 67 55mm does better on the K-1 than, for instance, the SMC (K) 55mm f/1.8?

Thank you for your comment and question. Unfortunately, I do not have the 55mm f 1.8 so I am unable to make any comparisons. Perhaps someone else may be able to do so. I agree that there is little reason to take on another system of lenses since the 645 series is an excellent set of lenses. I do it primarily as a retirement hobby, not from any sense of necessarily creating more salable images. Your image with the 645 55mm is quite clear and detailed, excellent, gotta try that lens on my K-1 too, or maybe the D FA 55 with WR, SR, etc.

I use that lens quite often too; of late my compact kit has been the "K series" 35/3.5, 55/1.8, and 85/1.8. I use the 645 lenses on the K-1 for the tilt/shift capability I get from the Mirex adapter.
