What do you get with an A 400, 2x, 1.7x, Q7 and a supermoon on a windy night going behind clouds? You get this video. Angle of view approximately 6392mm. I exported the video's frames, batch processed them to remove some of the haze, then combined them back into video. I hope to revisit this combination this year with better seeing conditions!

Below is the same lens combination with the K-1. I didn't expect much. It was basically a test to see what can be done under bad seeing conditions. I combined 91 images to almost get a 50% level of detail you expect from one good image:

Today at the feeder, we are used to squirrels. We've never had these guys last more than a few weeks.
I'm pretty sure the wolves or fishers get them.

It's hard keeping up with all these different lens clubs...

Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 70-210 f/3.5 (19AH) + Pentax Rear Converter A 2x-S. Cropped away 75% of the frame... not a bad performance from this combo!

Pentax HD 1.4X with HD DA 55-300mm WR

I wanted to see if the Pentax HD 1.4X converter could function well with my 55-300mm Pentax WR zoom. The experts say the converter would no autofocus reliably and would not provide adequate IQ when used with a “consumer grade” zoom.

On a hot, humid morning I headed lakeside to find insects, flowers and anything else to try the combination on my K-3.
Images were shot in Adobe DNG raw and developed in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for MAC.
The K-3 did have some hunting autofocus episodes, however the quick shift feature of the Pentax 55-300 allowed me to easily take over and achieve focus. The big bonus of adding the 1.4x converter to the zoom was being able to stay farther away from skittish insects. Photos taken in the 150-250mm range - 190- 350 were very sharp, contrast and saturated. All photos were taken handheld.

I’m pleased with the results of this compact, lightweight, weather resistant combination which I can use when I don’t wish to carry my 300 or 400mm primes.

tonight K3 with K300 + T6-2x teleconverter.

I should probably lighten it up a bit more, but I'll leave that for another time. I also forgot to mount the lens onto my Manfrotto Tele Lens Support, so there may be a little lens shake involved. The K300 does not have a tripod foot.

K5iis W/DA 55-300 WR & Tamron MC-4 AF 1.4X

I was testing this lens/converter pairing since the DA55-300 WR plays quite well with the Pentax HD DA 1.4X converter.
The spider is tiny, only about the size of a sesame seed! Shot handheld set to 300mm (420) at ISO 800 at an effective aperture of F11 and enlarged nearly to 1:1 pixel level! To say I am impressed is an understatement. The other test photos with this combination were equally impressive, especially the lack of CA and decent Bokeh. The best part of it all, I only paid $35 for this Tamron TC from B&H photo! It doesn’t have a mark on it either.

Impressive, indeed. It's quite surprising how some of these TCs perform.

Ancient M42 mount Palinar 200mm preset that cost £5 from the local market. On a Tamron 2x teleconverter for 99p off ebay. So basically I paid more for a burger and coke at the airshow than I did for the lens I was using.

The motion blur in the Spitfire shot is my own incompetence, not the lens's fault. I was a bit over-optimistic about my hand-holding skills at 1/250 to get prop blur, and ended up with some everything blur instead.
