Speaks volumes. And the black and white is perfect! I need to experiment more with this form. Can you recommend when it is most appropriate to publish in black and white? Having some sort of guidance would be helpful, since not all subjects work well in this format.

Cheers,

I don't do a lot of portraits. When I do they are mainly of my kids. Back to school is a big deal and here are the results of adding the DFA*50 to my kit this year. These are all wide open using HSS to a small octabox with a Godox TT600. My biggest concern was with AF accuracy and consistency wide open vs my older screw drive lenses, and while there are still the challenges of shooting with such narrow depth of field, this lens definitely delivered. Most of my shots were bang on. Then of course the wide open sharpness is just fantastic.

Thanks very much, Loyd.

I can't say in general when a photo looks better in black and white. I always take a look at the color photo and try it out to see how it looks in black and white. For very close shots with a lot of bokeh, I often find the black and white shots just as good as shots of old industry or architecture. I would say that I often develop it in black and white when I have a lot of structures in the photo and also when there is a lot of bokeh and only the center of the image is sharp.

Hi Dirk.

Just checked out your FLICKR site. Lots of excellent samples of B&W photography. Are most of these taken with the 50mm?

Cheers,
Loyd

This is a classic overdone shot, but seriously how could I resist? They put the boats out like that on purpose - because it looks amazing.

No, I've been with Flickr since 2012 and I bought this lens in 2019.

Been a while since I posted anything and taken any photos frankly. But one thing is always true..I am impressed with everything about this lens. Here is a shot on my way to a birthday hike in the eastern sierras.

Judging by the arms, your cat is sitting on its throne!

Your picture is fit for a king (or a queen).

hehe, yes, she's a queen and the chair is the typical evidence of owning a cat . It still holds up, could've been in worse condition
