Probably should get the name of the lens right too

HD Pentax-D FA* 1:1.4 50mm SDM AW if you want to be formal, DFA*50 for short.

The earth’s rotation on its axis might change when it gets there.

I might have a post or two coming up. This week I’m slammed. Next week I’m in Colorado. Can’t decide if I should travel with just K-1 and the Fat Fifty or KP and the Three Princes (HD DA21, 40 and 70).

Just took delivery on my sick day today -- feeling like crap but the B&H box was sure a nice pick me up.

I am sure the DFA*50 can take bad photos but it sure isn't going to be the fault of the lens! Very minor hunting in low-indoor light conditions but overall very responsive AF and a nice feel on the K-1. Most importantly though, absolutely gorgeous rendering and very crisp in focus detail down to 1.4 at a level I haven't seen before -- it's in a different class than my older A50/2.0 and Tak55/1.8 which are just not modern designs though they have some delicious distinct flavor of their own. Very slight CA is the only IQ issue I see wide open and it's gone by 2.8 for sure (I know, fix it in post is the usual refrain, but I've had serious issues with the DFA100macro when taking photos of things that are green or purple and the defringe tool wants to remove big chunks of color). I have a decent but not complete stable of modern zooms that are effective but not nearly as enjoyable to use, I'm super excited to get back into primes with modern designs!

My thought are exactly the same as yours. This will prove to be a classic lens for sure. The only thing I would add to your summary was that it was not as large as I was expecting and it didnt feel at all heavy on the K1

I would encourage anyone with doubts about this lens to download Peter's dog image at full size from his Flickr page, and blow it up to 100%. The detail around the eye is mind-blowing.

Counting the days!
