Most zooms have sharpness peak at centerpoint/average focal length; but, a few have their highest performance all the way to the wide angle side.

The Vivitar Cosina 24mm f2.8.
I have the version with the "A" and scalloped rubber focus ring. Same optics, I think.
It is a fine thing at f5.6 or higher, with the sun at your back. Some Fuji 400 was involved. The lens outperformed the film.
Or wide open and up close.
For sharpness, it seems that wide open is fine for a very short range, f4 is good for about 8ft, and f5.6 gets about 90ft distance.
After I get a sturdy tripod, then I'll try a landscape at f8 and see just how far the 'reach' may be.
Flaw: If the light source is in view, it does lower contrast and red-fringe. That could be a lot of fun with fall foliage. We won't need the didymium filter.
