One of my very early purchases was the A24 F2.8

Here's one from a weekend in London in 2013

SIGMA 24mm F2.8 SUPER-WIDE 11 manual focus

Just a couple of days since I bought this lens, interesting because of it's close focus capability. The lens suggests 1:4 macro is available so I went out in todays gusty weather and looked for something to shoot close up. I found this fly sheltering from the wind and got an image while trying to hold the marigold and myself steady.
I am quite impressed with what it is capable of close up. Shame the fly took flight before I could get some more shots.

Ooh, just noticed this thread. I recently got a Sigma Superwide 24/2.8 (the AF version).
Seems pretty nice and it didn't break the bank.

Ok - I'm thinking I need a 24mm lens in M42 mount.... and they seem to be a bit scarce, or pricey...

why not an older Tamron Adaptall, say an 01B or even a little further back, a CW-24?

I'm not sure you'll be able to find anything that would be better than that Vivitar 24 2.8 that I got from you, and that you were not thrilled with...

...except of course for the Takumar 24mm 3.5, but that one seems to not be so cheap anymore these days.

Same with the Takumar 20mm 4.5 - the images are very nice especially in the hands of forum member Dartmoor Dave, but it's not so cheap anymore.

A while back I wanted an SMC-M 20mm f4 (yes it's K mount but it's got lovely rendering I think, and the corners are good enough on APS-C). I should have gotten one before the K-1 came out, they were selling for 150 dollars back then. Now they're 300-400 dollars and sometimes even more!

that Vivitar (Cosina) 24 was just so frustrating in the sunlight - so much flare and loss of contrast... great colors, but too many trade-offs for me to love....
