I confirmed that the boring FA 70-210 Power Zoom I have can create reasonable starbursts - nothing worth showing yet however. I am shocked that this is the case but tickled to find out. Life is full of surprises.

Just a test shot with a SMC F 24-50 that I fixed.

SMC M 28 f2.8.

SMC F 35-105.

Sometimes you hear people say a 'good' sunstar is a subjective judgment, but it seems there's consensus around what attractive rendition is: well defined, minimal flare, evenly tapered, slender spokes. Number irrelevant. Or would someone like to defend another kind of beautiful?

For instance, I shot a series of stars from a handful of enlarger lenses for the tests at Delta: which do you prefer?

Thanks! I know, it was a surprise.

I'm new to vintage FF lenses, and after this finding I am on the hunt for an A, F or FA standard zoom lens. I'd appreciate your suggestions.
I've got a trio of F zooms, 24-50, 35-105, and 70-210. The 35-105 is most likely to stay on my K1 for general use, and I've been really happy with the results from it.

I liked that one but the lighter background may have biased me.

I found a surprise in this shot taken with my Sigma 105 f2.8 macro, and only at f5.

Aside from the Rodenstock (seems to lack starburst), any might be preferred based on the subject and composition. For me, starbursts are normally a sub-element of composition, not the star (bad pun).

DA 15mm, f/16 on K1-ii, shot at cropped 1:1 and further cropped for the starburst. I like that more on a 4K monitor, at highest resolution.
