For your peace of mind, I have purchased two copies of the 135mm 2.8 Macro (one near virginal for me and one for a nephew) with both lenses giving a slight rattle when shook. Worry not, it is an attribute of the aperture control lever mechanism.

Good to know! Thanks!

Required mine recently. The macro with "A" setting, with Ricoh pin that I quickly removed. Initial shot gives nice and sharp images. The macro is interesting, with usual glowing effect at the widest aperture. Colors are rich and contrast well-maintained. Here's some shots:

Help please

Recently acquired a Auto Sears/Sekor SX 55mm F1.4 as part of a lot. I used my handy Dremmel to remove the small lip around the aperture adjustment ring (as stated in numerous posts). It's now totally level with the base of the screw threads. But...

It will not close the blades when trying to take a shot. It appears that the pin that closes down the blades is not being activated by the lever in my D10. I can here it try to but nothing changes.

Did I not grind far enough for it to seat properly? I'm down to even with an interior metal ring (that's about 1/2 way between the outer edge of the aperture ring and the threads.

I use a Pentax conversion ring.

All help is greatly appreciated as I like the feel of this lens - and the results @ F1.4 at least.

Thx

Quality is kind of UGH, but I suppose I couldn't expect too much more handheld at 260mm with a 2x teleconverter attached. Shot with my 75-260 close focus. I really wish I had a decent 'long' lens - this sequence could of worked out a lot nicer, but I still love how I can push this old Sears to its limits at times.

ISO1600, 1/800sec, f/8 or 11 plus the effect from the converter.

Looks like I am soon going to be a member of this club. Just picked up a 5 lens package that included a Sears 300mm 5.6. It's the reason I bought the lenses. Anybody have any input on how to make the most of it? I have the 55-300 RA L, but I basically use it as a 300mm when its on my camera, so I figured why not try a prime.

Some recent stuff...

Auto Sears MC 75-260 f/4.5, shot wide open @ 4.5. It would of been sharper, but I was shooting through my plate glass window at him since he landed all of about 6 feet away from me.

Another day, another new Sears lens.

This time its the Auto Sears MC 28mm f2.8 macro. I bought the lens because I wanted something prime for landscapes, instead I wound up falling in love with it for the macro ability - go figure. I haven't really given it a workout as far as landscape / infinity focus yet.

I ran around yesterday doing some test shots with it.

Picked up an Auto Sears 55mm f1.4 recently here on the PF marketplace.
Been working with it in the Single in August challenge (a picture a day with the same lens for the duration of the month). All I can say is that this lens is great. Creamy bokeh wide open and pretty sharp down the line.
A few from since I started to work with it. And thanks for looking.

I didn't read the entire thread so excuse me (or delete this) if this has been answered already.

But I wonder if there is a way to know, maybe by serial number, who manufactured our Sears lenses and what year they were made ?

Figured I'd post my line-up of functioning Sears lenses. This is also just about the extent of my manual lenses. I have a Pentax-m 50mm f/2 which I never use, and a JC Penney 135 f2.8 with a stuck aperture. Both lenses are sitting on old camera bodies I want to get fixed up some day so I can play with film.

I also have the remains of an 80-200 I regret stripping down for the mount, but its been eclipses by the 75-260 as far as range (and quality) goes.

EDIT: The 135mm and the zoom share similar serial numbers as well, so I'm guessing they might be 'brothers' of a sort in that they were built almost at the same time. I bought the lenses seperately from sellers living in two entirely different parts of the country.

135mm = 199-730670
Zoom= 199-737640

Comparing Sears 55 F1.4 to Takumar 50 1.4 and 55 1.8

My Auto Sears/Sekor SX is my new go to 50.
