I failed to mention the 200 (m42) has a 'built in' hood !

It's funny that this is an unloved focal length, when every 70-200 made, and there are lots, include it. It would be even more loved if you included 135 mm on APS-c cameras. 18-135, 50-135, it's actually a very loved focal length. In my library from last year 5% are 200mm equivalent within 195 and 210 mm.

Maybe the 200mm primes are unloved because folks think that the fuzziness and distortion of the 200mm length of their zoom lenses are characteristic of all 200mm lenses. :>)

It's definitely true that any zoom will be weakest at it's longest focal length.
Even my old Sigma 70-300 was a stellar lens at 90mm. Imagine taking the resolution of a front element designed to reach 300mm and squeezing into a 90mm frame, and you understand why.

Evening Eagle Sun

This is a sculpture carved from deer antler, setting on my table as the sun was setting. It simply glowed.

With nothing but time on my hands and a camera and long lenses I've decided to try my hand at bird photography in my backyard.

Yesterday I shot some hooded oriels that are taking up residence in the area.

Here's a few feathered visitors from yesterday.

I'm always seeing the 200mm club and I always think, I have one of those 200mm lenses, I should use it.
K-1 and DA*200 2.8
It actually makes a pretty good walk around lens. For 18-135 users 135 on APS_c is the same as 200 on FF, and I use APSC at 135 quite bit on my walks, so it's really not much of a sacrifice,

Tia at the start of the walk.

Tripper bailed on me right after this photo. He has his grumpy look on. They can find their way home at any time on the walk. Sometimes one of them just leaves. They are always waiting in the parking lot when we get home.

The ways enthusiastic Jesse.

One of the big landmark snags came down in the last wind... if you've been on the forum for a while you've seen picture of it upright.

Count the rings.

The base still has it's fungus.
