Rigged a hummingbird feeder on the balcony railing Sunday - birds found it today. Things are fast, lots of missed focus. Should have plenty of time to work on technique now, and as they get used to me I should be able to get closer over time.

K-1, DA*200/2.8, large crop.

I am loving my Pentax 67 200mm f 4.0 medium format lens with loads of sharpness. This is the latest and best of three 200mm lenses offered by Pentax for the Pentax 67 film camera. For close-in birding this lens works well with the 645Z, though you will need more "reach" for more distant situations. There's lots of apparent reach and still enough slack to allow for cropping with this lens used on the K-1 or K-3. I am learning that for birding you are well advised to use the sharpest lens you can find and to "extend the reach" by use of a smaller format camera, rear converter, or cropping instead of going for a longer lens with less sharpness.

Hummingbirds have become comfortable around the feeder. They now just zip in and perch, with little or no hovering. Both shots with the K-1 and DA*200/2.8, heavy crops.

Got lucky and one of two showing movement was just OK.
