Please put that damn lens down, you are going to sell it to me. I am holding out for the 70-200 f4

I use it as the back up for my DA* 60-250 so I don't use it that often. Given the number of "chances" it gets, I have remarkable number of keepers with it.

That being said, ƒ2.8 is ƒ2.8. There are times when that means something.

There are two days a year when you might get this image. They are collecting mud from the puddle to build their nest. I came back the next day and the puddle was almost dry, and the birds had obviously finished the nest the day before. They were in the sky, but weren't' coming to the puddle. This one taken on the lawn beside Niagara Falls, Canadian side.

A high level of Prior Preparation & Planning to Procure Prime Photographic Performance is required then.

Either that or just extremely lucky.

Being able to predict in advance which two days of the year these birds would be nest building would be next to impossible. When my step son lived in Niagara falls I would go on photo excursions down to the falls 2 or three times week, just because they were there. Images like that are completely a result fo the amount of time I spend walking around with a camera with full kit, at least 4 lenses,. A lot of days it's for nothing. Other days you get images no one else is prepared for. The DA*200 2.8 is great for that. It's very light weight for a telephoto and can be just thrown in the bag, even if I don't expect to use it.

I came back the next day with the Tamron 300 2.8 (which is just to heavy to carry all over the place without some reason for thinking you might need it.) , but the moment was gone. You need to be prepared for the moment.

The option of taking a shower while he napped was there, though.

Cleansing, though. Does it add or detract from the acid mantle?
