Noticed this reflection from a Metropolitan Museum of Arts poster near the Xmas tree in my living room. Not sure how artistic it is, but it IS a cat! And it is a 40mm Ltd. xposted to the Thematic Cats! thread.

Since there are a lot of users of the DA 40mm in this group, a quick question:
Has any of you experienced a sticky aperture before?

The aperture on my DA40 all of a sudden started to close down as if it were dampened, weird thing is I don't see any oil on the blades.
Can't use it above F8.0, or with higher shutter speeds, it doesn't close down fast enough. Also slightly worried that oil will get into my camera, if it is oil.
Wiggling the lever around speeds it up a bit for a while.
I have had no problem with my SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 Limited

It was bought as used equipment, not new

Was browsing through some older files and came across this. Think this was the first shot with my 43 on my K-1, and 19th shot with my K-1 in general.

And a little later the same day with the 43, my trusty model about to break into one of her silly grins.

Nutcracker on Clearance

Taken with my DA40, on my KP, in the post-holiday Christmas clearances, where this giant Nutcracker seemed far too lonely and isolated -

I have put my 40mm xs on eBay to raise cash to pay for a Fuji X-E1 that I have already purchased. I thought it would be fun, before it sells, to pair them up. I am now considering removing the listing, it was that good

The post processing suits this subject well. Image feels like it came from an earlier time.

Never happened to me in the 4-5 years I owned the lens.

Most repair shops, even if not Pentax authorized, should be able to fix this.

It definitely needs a CLA. There are a couple of screws that calibrate automatic apertures. They could also be the culprit. It's best to send it in for a service before it gets worse. A loose screw can cause some damage. Regarding the aperture, once oil starts to appear on the blades, it's already on the perforated rings that move them and other parts of the mechanism. It's basically the last sign.

What kind of extension tubes are you using? Asking because one without contacts would limit the aperture to f/22.
