It's a good zoom-range for hiking and although the corners are a tad weaker than those of my F 35-70mm lens it still produces good images and when weight is an issue, 185g is hard to beat.

Exactly. It's my "dogwalk in the woods" lens, and I don't worry about it getting a bit wet or dirty.
