Thanks Dave,
The crop eliminates many of the trees on both sides of the hawk. You are so right about the environment as the undergrowth surrounding the rows of trees has died back leaving a clear vision of field mice, chipmunks, and other potential meals. The small size and slender length on the single vertical had me thinking it was something else.

I think the comp works very well - really gives the image a sense of place.

Having been an F-Series fan for a long time, I've long lusted after a 24-50mm lens to help fill in my meager collection of "F" lenses. After looking at your photographs it only makes me want one more! It surely does resolve very minute detail in the foliage scenes. I've got a F-50mm f:1.7 coming. My F-35-70mm lens has always presented me with some remarkable results. It produces a 3-D effect more than any lens I've ever owned..

Nice work! That is another underrated F-lens, along with the F35-80 I used above. The F35-70 is better, but the 35-80 holds its own, especially when the subject is close/isolated. It's the best $12 lens I own!

Another with the F35-80, taken the same day as my previous shots:

Thanks Dewman,
The F series primes are great rendering color and sharpness and the 24-50 is also with a much heavier build in spite of the plastic exterior.

Here's a shot from the Takumar-F version of the 35-70mm, which is single-coated rather than SMC. I'm not yet convinced by this lens - I've had some trouble with erratic focusing and I'm not convinced that the lens brings anything unique to my photography. For the €20 I paid for it I imagine I'll keep it around as it's quite small and on film it's a useful focal range.

So true!

A couple taken with the *ist D and F35-80. We cross this creek bridge a few times every week - the pathway takes us to a local park just a couple minutes from home:

How about some lovely autumn poison ivy?
