SMC Pentax-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 SDM Club - Show your love for the "stack of primes"

Considering this lens is the second most reviewed of any digital era Pentax lens, I was surprised it did not have it's own thread. Sure it holds a spot of honor in the "Pixie Dust Club" and obviously falls into the "DA* Club". But a legend like this deserves it's own.

Probably one of the most revered, and despised, lenses of all. But those of us who love it will never give to up. SDM can fail, manual focus can fail, and I'll just focus with my feet.

I'll start with some old K10D shots.

Moved to Lens Clubs

I love this lens. I sold my first copy after I got the DFA*70-200, but missed it enough to recent acquire a new one.

Some old shots:

Like Sandy I let this go as I acquired FF glass. Just this week I picked up another one and I am delighted to find that it is every bit as lovely as I remember. Good idea to give it it's own club.

I do not have the DA*, but I do have a Samsung NX 50-150mm F2.8 S. It is big and heavy but very useful.

Series of excellent captures but to me the mushroom is special! It's easy to see why you love this lens; you play well together!
Best.

Wow! Love the mushroom, and what are the black birds? Swans?

Indeed. Black swans are not just a literary allegory

I never knew! I totally thought they were just a literary device! *facepalm* Now, to never tell my family FULL of ornithologists I didn't know this.

They are gorgeous. I will have to travel to find some and take tons of pictures.

Interesting to hear of the return to the DA* 50-135 from DFA 70-200 but no surprise given the bulk and weight of the latter.

The DA* 50-135 f2.8 has become very cheap on the used market. A fully working copy (SDM still works) got no bids at £199 on Ebay last week... £199 for this lens is insane and I would buy one except for buying the DA* 60-250 f4 this year.
