Enjoying this lens quite a bit

I am noticing that this lens imparts an almost tilt-shift effect whenever I shoot digonally as oppsed to straight on. not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind

As a Macro, it renders well, and using Catch-In Focus is a real boon. Very nice colors, IMO.
I like the scribbly looking reflections on the water's surface in the B&W fountain shot.

I wonder whether the designers of this 50 mm lens had any idea how excellent this lens is.
Lets not forget that most great designs, European and Japanese origin, are fourty to sixty years old.
More recent designs offer AF and are sometimes a stop faster. Besides that there is hardly any if any improvement of IQ at all.

It's no coincidence that the DA Limiteds were designed based on the Tessar principles. Even sharpness, saturated colors and high contrast are characteristics of this design- and the Pentax 50mm f4 macro is a Tessar in perhaps its purest form.

That is new to me, these designs being based on the Tessar design from Carl Zeiss.
Carl Zeiss left the Tessar designs for what they are and moved on to Planar and Sonnar designs.
The last Tessar based design for Hasselblad was the 160 mm Tessar lens. That lens is not particularly liked as the older150 mm and 180 mm Sonnar lenses gave better IQ.

Me too, I enjoyed many of the images in this thread.
Nice to know this 50 macro lens is based on the Tessar design.

This lens is also very good for capturing images used in creating stitched panoramas
