thank you, Ed - this lens had gone for a CLA shortly after I bought it due to it's poor condition...

this is the lens that keeps me looking for other 50mm lenses to try....

Comparable to it is the Taks 50/1.4s (I never tried the 8-element version. I have the 7-element radioactive version). The Rikenon XR 50/1.4 is OK, but no A setting + I need to use it further. I cannot confirm it is in the same league as the A 50/1.4.

no worries

there had been some debate about which was sharper, the 1.7 or the 1.4

at the same apertures, my copies showed that the 1.4 has better bokeh and color, plus the option to have the wide open 1.4....

plus, the 1.4 seems better built....

I've used the M and F 50/1.7 = people swear by those two. the F is the same as the A optically... Personally I do not like the F 50/1.7, most likely because of the AF and the fact that it is not so good in digital. And then the focus ring is sooo small. Finally, the thread for the filter usually breaks off in these as it is plastic (my version, the thread is broken).

End of vent...
