You're too kind! I am not sure I have really nailed it with this lens so far but my hit rate is (slowly) improving. And I finally found my 82mm CPL which will help with these botanical and woodland shots.

I love the stack, Wheatfield. I need to get the tripod out again!

I honestly think the lens is fantastic and I could spend years trying to master it! Here's a few more from me.

Rather than spam the thread with every photo I take, I have made a Flickr album with my shots from this lens:

I will try to start a flickr group too (if no-one else did).

You probably don’t realize it, but your botanical photos went a long way toward pushing me off the edge as far as this lens goes. If everyone had posted lovely portraits of beautiful models I probably would have looked, admired, and moved on to the next topic. But post incredible photos of dogs, flowers and forests and it’s all over for me.

I thought the whole idea of these threads was to post photos. Keep them coming. Hopefully we will attract a few more owners of the lens in.
It’s only spam if it isn’t welcome......
I will also join a Flickr group if you start one.
Let’s really show this lens off.

Thanks for the kind words mtngal and Wheatfield. Of course no problem to share a few more. Really looking forward to see what others will add here as well!

A couple of these are x-posted from the bokeh club.

PS I see someone has posted some astounding portraits to the flickr group for the lens. Just brilliant stuff.

John

The one thing that stands out to me in all of these photos is their depth.

Here's something I don't do often. This was shot at f/1.4 for 10 seconds.

Is everyone posting here using just the K1 for the lens? I have both the K1 and KP, with the KP being the one I use the most. I don’t know if I would use this much on the KP, but I might. All of these photos are awesome, and I love the F1.4 and F8 comparison shots - it sure looks like the lens is incredibly sharp through it’s whole range.

I was in awe of the thing with the comet picture.

Studio stuff

My granddaughter has decided that playing model is fun.
Shot at f/1.4
Note I missed focus by a rather substantial margin. This was using LiveView and moving the focus point around.

For those of us who are less easily impressed, behold 100%.

I got my lens today. It arrived between thunderstorms, so I didn’t get much chance to play with it.

I tried it on both the KP and the K1, and was very pleased how it works with both cameras. I might find myself using it with the KP more than I had thought - I find it almost too heavy on the K1 (but then I haven’t been shooting the K1 much recently).

It is one very sharp lens!

KP, f1.4:

And a thistle (KP, f1.6)

I love sharp lenses and this is one very sharp lens. I’m going to have fun with it, even though it’s a far better lens than I am a photographer.

I took a walk yesterday and decided that I have a long way to go to really figure out the lens. But I already love it on the KP (wanted to walk with a lighter camera).

It’s not a macro lens. This was cropped quite a bit and it was not far from the minimum focus distance. I was actually rather pleased it did as well as it did, considering the tri-colored bumble bee was only there for a minute or two. (F1.4, I should have stopped down the lens more).

Leaves at f1.4:

And at f4:

Distant mountain at f5.6. Sort-of a ho-hum photo, there’s a bit of telephoto compression going on, and it’s so sharp that it almost loses the feeling of depth in some way. Or maybe it’s just how I happened to look at it, after shooting mostly close-up types of things all morning.

Reflection was interesting. I couldn’t change my position much - I was on a trail. F1.4.

Anyway, that’s what I managed with the lens on my first day with it. The lens plays very nicely with the KP and I may end up using it more because of the lighter weight.
