I took a walk yesterday and decided that I have a long way to go to really figure out the lens. But I already love it on the KP (wanted to walk with a lighter camera).
It’s not a macro lens. This was cropped quite a bit and it was not far from the minimum focus distance. I was actually rather pleased it did as well as it did, considering the tri-colored bumble bee was only there for a minute or two. (F1.4, I should have stopped down the lens more).
Leaves at f1.4:
And at f4:
Distant mountain at f5.6. Sort-of a ho-hum photo, there’s a bit of telephoto compression going on, and it’s so sharp that it almost loses the feeling of depth in some way. Or maybe it’s just how I happened to look at it, after shooting mostly close-up types of things all morning.
Reflection was interesting. I couldn’t change my position much - I was on a trail. F1.4.
Anyway, that’s what I managed with the lens on my first day with it. The lens plays very nicely with the KP and I may end up using it more because of the lighter weight.
