Originally posted by nosliwmit I fell on Friday while carrying my K-1 II with D FA 21mm attached. I went down like a ton of bricks and the camera impacted the ground (I was in a very soggy field and I'm not even sure what it hit). The lens hood is quite bent but there doesn't appear to be any glass damage. The focus ring is stiff in a couple of places so, even though the motor still works, it can't get past a couple of areas. I can focus manually and the lens appears to still be ok optically (I haven't done any detailed checking). I'm hoping that when the hood is replaced the focus will return to normal (if the bent hood is introducing stresses into the barrel). We'll see!
Oh no! This is very sad. The first to die.
Did you have it insured?
I recently had my SMC DA 15 Limited
largely rebuilt by Pentax in Japan. They even used some parts from the newer HD version, though the optics are unchanged. Perhaps your local distributer could send it in for a similar overhaul. I think it would be much cheaper than a new one. Because Pentax pride themselves on the Limiteds being all hand-built and largely metal, they seem willing to go to considerable trouble with them.
By the way, my DA 15 is now perfect, perhaps even better than new.
Alternatively, if you could disassemble it yourself, perhaps the hood could be straightened manually.
