Snow Melt

A spate of early winter snow on Tasmania’s highlands has melted, bringing cold water down from the mountains.

K-1 | FF mode | DFA21Ltd | f/8 | Capture One Pro - HDR & Keystone Correction yielding ~ 4200 x 6300px)

Edit: This one wasn‘t Pixel Shift Resolution - it‘s HDR, file split into three, then developed using Capture One Pro‘s new HDR module.

This is probably the worst case for flare I have been able to provoke from the DFA21 so far - Even with filters involved it is an impressively flare resistant lens.

Ricoh EU seems to be out of stock (online shop doesn't reflect this) so good news for Pentax I guess.

From time to time I like to explore my camera and lenses in depth.

This time I used the K-1 in FF mode, horizontal orientation, composition adjustment and the DFA21 Ltd.

The idea was to simply make two exposures. One shifted up and one shifted down to the maximum. The two images I wanted to stitch in Capture One Pro 22 with its panorama function - Spherical. This is the method supporting multi row images. I already new that it would lead to an image aspect ratio of about 4:3.

The original stitched image shows 7360 x 5501 px. Cropped to 4:3, 7335 x 5501 px remained. Not that bad I think. If I take one shot in FF mode I get 7360 x 4912 px and cropping to aspect ratio 4:3 there only remain 6549 x 4912 px (32.17 MP). In addition the angles of view of the resulting image are reduced.

Sensor shifting by composition adjustemt didn't show any problems with vignetting - at least I didn't see any. This shows that the image circle of the lens is sufficient large.

Shots from tripod but no pano rail needed since sensor shift based composition doesn't lead to parallax errors.

The stitched and 4:3 cropped image has ~ 40.35 MP. This is similar to what the 645D delivers. So, if your composition cries for 4:3 and the conditions allow to use multi-shot technique with two images, using composition adjustment may be worth using.

More experiments may follow. Another idea is using four corner maximized composition adjustment images pano stitched or two images left and right maxed to get a horizontal one row panorama.
