I took this picture in my home studio today as a test shot for a K-x w/18-55mm that I'm selling. The picture was shot at 55mm and exposure was ISO 200, 1/160 sec, and f8. Lighting was provided by a single "White Lightning" strobe with a medium soft box just to the right of the camera. If you're into pixel-peeping (you know who you are!), you can click on the picture for the original, full-size 12MP image.

The 'Kit' lens is the ONLY 'Digital 'lens I have for my K10D -- all my other lenses are from 'Film' cameras ! I sometimes find that is is not sharp where I focussed -- it is sharper BEHIND the main subject -- I think it is my K10 D suffering 'back focus' problems -- I tend to use it 'manual focus' now.
18-55mm kit lens, available light + weak flash, Cockpit, Douglas DC4 going rotten ! It was for the local newspaper. Manual focus.

Good Friday Service, taken 2007 just after I had bought the K10D ( used in the local newspaper)

A Veteran Paratrooper at the annual Remembrance Parade in Brentwood, taken 2007 year I got my K10D -- I did a 12x8" inkjet print of this for my Club.

Sorry if this was posted already and i missed it.
I have been toying around with the 18-55mm WR lens and it seems to be sharpest, with mine anyway, at 45mm f/7.1
I am curious to know what others here experience in this area, with this particular lens.
What do you think are the best combination of focal length and aperture to yield the sharpest image with this lens?

I have the original DA18-55 & it seems best at 30-40mm f/8. I understand the WR version probably has slightly better optics.
