Took my kit lens (the older version) out today for some backyard close-ups:

Not a super sharp lens, slow, made of cheapish plastic... but it does focus quite close (and hard to beat for the price )

What is the biggest complaint with the 18-55? There are certainly some nice shots included in the pervious posts but there is bound to be some legitimate complaints. This lens is certainly priced like a kit lens so maybe you're only getting what you've paid for. Is it the sharpness? Maybe a color cast? Vignetting or just what is it. I'm interested in what others say about this lens so I can compare shots from the one I have. Does the sweet spot with this lens vary with any individual lens or does it seem to be consistant among 18-55's?

Best Regards

Welcome to the forum. I don't mean to be rude, but these answers are smattered throughout the 26 pages of this thread and of the dozens of other threads on the 18-55. If you use the search function, you will find the details. The one sentence summary of the rap is that it is an inexpensive lens with less than tip-top sharpness, contrast and speed at some focal lengths, but it is better than most kit lenses from other manufacturers.

This thread is mostly for posting photos.

I got the 18-55 WR recently to pair up with my K200D on rainy days. I've found it to be a great option for the money. Here are some shots I took on a rainy day last week
