I'm just using the DA 18-55 AL WR. Most of the shots have been stopped down to around f/8 so as to get maximum sharpness, plus I ran some sharpening in lightroom just to take it that bit further.
I do wish I could have a 16-45 but I would have to sell off a few to afford it

yups..so do I (use some sharpening) if i use 18-55, especially if the picture teken at 18 mm

Very nice! I really think the kit lens is underrated when it comes to these types of shots.
