Picture links to blog, where you can compare it to a black-and-white version. I'm not quite sure which version I prefer...
Picture is a bit soft. Low light, long exposure, weak hands. I definitely have to get some artificial light... Or a faster lens. Or both. ;-)
The color version rocks...
Originally posted by Designosophy I lost interest in the kit lens when I discovered primes, but rediscovered it again after using a number of other zooms, including the DA 16-45 and some manual land autofocus zooms from Sigma and Tamron. The kit lens is a worthy piece of equipment. I found the 16-45 to be slightly better in contrast and color, but only slightly. Sharpness was comparable, except for maybe at the corners at larger apertures. I now have the WR version, which I took out in the rain today just for fun. Here's one at 55mm, wide open. I'm also including a 100% crop because the wide-open sharpness is worth noting.
I've been on the fence about getting the 18-55 WR, but on weekends like we're having now, it's perfect! That's impressively sharp wide open. I've had place in my heart for the 18-55 Kit lens, often seems to be the right choice for parties and events where everything is tight and close. I, as well, have been toying around with zoom lenses and really liking it...

Very very good lighting!
