I did some product shots (in a lightbox I built myself from an old carton box) with the K-7 and SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm AL WR:

Kit lens

It's my most used lens. Not being a pro or having any such aspirations it keeps me happy as a walk-around lens. Most of my pics are for memories and the quality more than pleases me. This one below got me pleasantly surprised with the detail.

Kit mk II

Not sure if they are my favourites with the kit, but I like them, and I have them online already. One reason for me to dislike my kit is that I think it is so good stopped down a step or two outside, that I probably won't get a faster normal zoom. Outdoors - kit stopped down, for landscapes and street shots and so on. Indoors the FA50 or DA35 if I need the speed.

But damn, sometimes a faster zoom would be nice indoors...

You know, a couple of weeks ago I was looking to see if there was a "Kit Lens Club" thread, and since I searched specifically for the word "club" in the title, I didn't find one. I decided against starting one.

Now that I see this long-dormant thread, and now that I'm a moderator, it occurs to me I could change the name of it to reflect the "Club" convention. But I'm too new at this moderating business to feel like just doing it withut someone else saying "yeah, that's a good idea". Anyone?

Meanwhile, here's a few recent shots from my 18-55II:

One of the first I took with my K10D & Kit Mk1 and when I saw the IQ this lens can produce - well a pic speaks volumes and now have many of equal IQ

And this

another

Team the kit with a 55-300 and you have a killer super affordable combo

Thanks! The first - the gorge - is indeed the Rio Grande near Taos, taken from the bridge. The next is of one of the locomotives of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Antonito, CO, about an hour north of Taos. The last is about another hour north of Antonito.
