i have looked at all the photos. Most of them are landscapes. It makes me wonder if the kit lens, 18-55, is good at wide angles but not at macro?

the focus/blurry effect which you can achieve at higher focal lengths is not possible with this one?

So far, I'm not quite comfortable using the 18-55 for some reason. Hopefully that will change as I use it more.

Well, it's not a macro lens, but it does focus about as closes as any other non-macro lens you muight compare it to. See the two posts directly above yours.

It only goes to 55mm, just like the name says. So sure, it doesn't do the sort of effects only possible at 100mm or 200mm. Nor does it do f/2.8 or better. But again, the two posts right above yours do show the sort of shallow DOF effects that are nonetheless possible.

I posted these in the Photo Critique a while back to get some advice with the PP but they are two of my favourite shots with the kit lens (so I thought I'd post the finished product here too):

Does the WR count?

I had a friends 18-55WR for a day, just trying it out, in the kitchen sink.

Thanks Marc for the clarification. I recently bought a k-x with 18-55 (due to my dad's pentax gear, mostly manual lenses with a 1975 35mm SLR (dont know the model number) and an auto 110 aswell :P). I have basic understanding of photography knowledge, but not very much. Thanks for the patience.
