I haven't heard of a Series 1 300mm, are you sure it's not a zoom? Quick googling found an AF 28-300mm and an AF 70-300mm and both aren't exactly praised I'm afraid.

I looked it up the other night. The one web site I was on has those grouped as series A, zooms. It apparently says Vivitar 75-300mm Macro Focusing Zoom No.77412825 Lens. They didn't seem to rate it too badly as I recall. I'll have to go and find that site again, and post a link.

Well, that's one perfectly focussed shot. The droplets look like bubbles.

Thx! I didn't even remember taking that shot when I found it.

Where are all S1 shooters? This thread needs a bump.

Just today received the S1 3.5/70-210mm (1st Kiron version). 38eur shipped from UK in good condition with the cool original metal front cap. I'm going out with it tonight and hopefully have something to post later.

vivitar number 1 series 28-105mm 1:2.8 3.8 and pentax K-x

After I removed the Ricoh pin the A function did not work. I took it apart once more and now everything seems to be fine.

@ovim
At Zoom in and very cosed aperture the lens is very sharp. At 28mm and the aperture wide open the infinitive looks almost blurry and with almost closed aperture not really super sharp.
Is this normal?

Also tall buildings tilt over to the edges of the of a picture. only in the center you get buildings in a rectangle to the horizon. otherwise they tilt to the left or right.
Will lens correction take care of that?

I think lens distortion correction may correct the leaning in the last shot but I can't tell because the tall building is too central to determine if the leaning is perspective or lens distortion

At any rate both can be corrected. I use corel PSP X3 but other packages also ha ve both lens correction and perspective correction

I just joined this club last night!

After finding that the Henry's used store down on Queen St. closed its doors a few months ago, I wandered out to Mississauga to their new location. Sifting through the bins of used lenses and bodies, going through and inspecting anything that looked interesting--lo! I found a lens that felt like it was glued to the bottom of the box in comparison to the weight of the other lenses!

I tested it on one of the many used film bodies they had in the bins and it worked perfectly!

I went back to the car to grab my body (a K10D) and it refused to mount. Upon closer inspection there's a flange that I'll need to zing down for it to mount up correctly, but I still think I walked away with a good deal:

A Vivtar Series 1 70-210mm , made by Kiron. Generic rear cap and a Soligor front cap.

It's my first macro-able lens--in the past I've used a 50mm 1.7 with tubes for macro. I can't wait to get this thing/tank mounted up!

Quick follow-up; I modded my lens around 11a today (dremmel the majority, draw filing to finish) and I snapped this of a 300C one when I was waiting for the bus.

Only PP was the resize to 900px wide and erased the license plate.

100-500 Series 1 :)

I picked this up a couple months ago and haven't used it extensively yet. However, I have a couple shots (hand-held at 500mm) from the first time I took it out.

There wasn't much done to this picture except auto-tone.

While I haven't had a ton of time to take it out and put it through the paces, I leave this week for Teton National Park and am hoping to use it to get some good wildlife shots. I'll post some after I get back.
