I've had my Vivitar Series-1 70-210/3.5 (ver 2) for a couple of years now and rarely bring it out due to its size, but it is really a stellar performer - arguably one of the better values out there in the PK legacy glass world.

I've had my Vivitar Series-1 70-210/3.5 (ver 2) for a couple of years now and rarely bring it out due to its size, but it is really a stellar performer - arguably one of the better values out there in the PK legacy glass world.

V2 of the VS1 70-210's is my favorite version overall (despite the fact that V3 sometimes seems a bit sharper). As for "size", I find the lens pretty compact (although a bit "weighty") for a telephoto zoom.

I will say that your lens seemed to do better on FF film than on the K-3 -- the hummingbird photo seems a bit duller than some of the others -- was it shot through a window glass or through a window screen? -- was it shot wide open? -- was it overly cropped? -- or...? (Just curious.)

Thanks. I agree - for the length/range it is certainly NOT large - I just normally carry very small kits and do little telephoto work, so for me personally it's "large" - but by most comparisons it is small. Honestly I may begin taking it out more.

That particularly hummer shot isn't entirely representative. There was a fair bit of LR work for a more filmic look (which I prefer) and that dim look is actually what I was after... Also it was late afternoon in back of house shade. But I'll see if I can export a more neutral version of that shot for comparison.Now that I look at it more closely (I just accepted the dim/dull because really, that's how it was in the bush that time of day)...
This was at ISO1600 1/800 shutter, wide open at f/3.5 - and SR was turned off! haha... Needless to say it was not well-planned. I was actually shooting three hummingbirds nearby with my MZ-S and ran the roll out. A few minutes later, and even dimmer I just threw the Vivitar on the K-3 sitting nearby without much of a thought as to what it had been doing previously.

Hahaha.... The original was "soft and dark" - no fault of the lens.

I prefer the film version by quite a margin, but I understand what you mean.

I have a Vivitar Series 1 1:2.8-4.0 70 - 210 mm macro zoom mf 62 f which is the Kormine (Version 3 http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm) It does have the A setting

Interesting topic, for anyone who want to know the reviews of series of Vivitar S1 lenses.
I've done the conversion of Vivitar S1 70-210 (Komine) from KONICA mount to Pentax K.

Here is an example of close focusing.

IMHO, it performs well from center to corners in term of sharpness and contrast, its bokeh is smooth, CA acceptable. I will test more with this lens.


PS: Do anybody have experience with Vivitar 90mm f/2.8 macro, and how much its price?

Converted from Konica to PK? How? eBay seems to have more Series 1 lenses in Konica and Canon FD than any living mount.
