Got my first owl a couple days ago! It sat there and posed for me and everything. I'm pretty sure it's a Grey Owl. What do you think?

Dipper

I was able to get some shots of a dipper at work. For those not familiar with this little bird, he spends his days diving under water and searching for insects etc off the bottom of fast moving water. He seems very much at home in water that is near the freezing point. They have a habit of bobbing up and down while on shore. These guys never seem to stop. He was diving but that's pretty tough to photograph so here he is just taking a look I guess Note the transparent eyelid that is closing just before he submerges.

Great shots! I saw Dippers at the bottom of the Grand Canyon in 1982, but I wasn't allowed to take the SLR with me, so no photos.

Here's a shot I got with the DA 300mm with the HD 1.4 teleconverter. Trying to figure out what species of duck this is. Can anyone help?

Is that from last summer? It is a goldeneye, there are two common ones. The females are a bit tough to tell apart.

I went with two friends to the Creston Valley today. Light was good and the finds were very satisfying. I'm still finding my way around the 500mm Sigma.

Yes, shot this in June in the Grand Tetons. Schwabacher's Landing had just re-opened and I was there waiting for sunrise when these guys showed up. Quick change of lenses and rattled off a few shots, then got ready for sunrise again. Had to shoot ISO 3200, but it cleaned up OK.

Thanks for the info you two. The guide I have doesn't show this one so I was a little at a loss.

I thought I knew what this first bird was, but when I looked it up in my book, I am wrong. Can anyone ID it?
