Originally posted by derekkite Norm, where are you at? Turkeys have become quite common here in the interior of BC. The story is that they were seeded in Idaho for hunters and they have spread. We have large groups of up to 30 in some fields, smaller groups of half a dozen or so where ever there is a food supply. Neat birds. What surprises me is that they survive so well.
We are near Algonquin park, right on the border between Northern Ontario and southern Ontario. (Two different jurisdictions with different laws etc. mining companies and other resource extractors, can get a away with anything in Northern Ontario. I have an old logging road that goes right through my back yard. The company knew where the property ended they just ignored it. Try that in Southern Ontario and you get a different result.) They were introduced in southern Ontario years ago, I've seen groups of 30 to 40 in grain fields, in the south, there not so much to eat up hear. It's been a very successful re-introduction. But I have seen them in the park, down towards Bancroft and other places. There's even a bow hunting season for them now. The most we've ever seen in the back yard was 2.
