Now I am really deflated Travis. I travel hi and lo to find shots and you get a shot like this while laid up on your couch with an injured back.

Sorry to hear about your back. Hope you will be better soon. Nice shot in any case.

Spotted the Grouse in the underbrush
How close were you from the bird? It looked to be very close especially with a 300mm lens.

I didn’t know that your client list was so backed up that they would stop by and look in your window when you call in sick

Tamron adaptall 300mm f2.8 60B for a change.

Got some nice pics of a moorhen. The first is with 014F 1.4x tc f8, the next two without f11.

Not much difference! I also tried stacking with the 2x tc but for me too much loss of contrast and detail.
I struggled to get a good pic of the coot that was also cruising around. Even with significant underexposure the white beak and slash kept clipping. Any suggestions....?
Just as I was about to leave the hide this ?warbler chiffchaff teased, flitting from twig to branch. This shot was the best definition/focus on the head, though the body feathers are a bit clipped. One for you Gary - but you've got your birds better trained

Ian, composition, colour (color?), focus. dof, etc are all good. BUT what am I looking at? It is something with which I am unfamiliar.

Regards
Rod.

You just might realize what that critter is if you tried to pet it. Porcupine, I think.

We don't have porcupines in Australia - we have the much spikier Echidna.

This one spiky enough? You don't want to get them upset! (previously posted)

You're safe if you pet it head to tail and not the other way. Of course, the porcupine may not like the petting. Then, you won't be safe anymore.

Thanks for the "like" r0ckstarr, but I wouldn't want to get that close to one again - the beastie erected its spines just before I took the shot - it's whole back opened up as you can see - then I beat a hasty retreat. They can lash you with their tail, and the barbed spines detach and expand with blood when they get into you so they are hard to get out. Nasty stuff.

Here's another "too close for comfort" shot taken on the same trip to Yukon. The DA 55-300mm lens was at 260mm so doesn't strictly qualify here. I should add that I was very close to an open car door!

Nice shot of the bear. 260 mm is way too close for me. And I am bear aware - we have both black and grizzly here in the Elk Valley of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It's very warm for this time of year, and they will be hungry and waking up and we have gone into high gear on garbage containment.

First shots with the 150-500 and K-3. Not bad considering the light and dirty window they were taken through...

500mm

370mm and cropped to 14MP

Shutter was 1/125 and I had both SR and OS on. Always forget the SR...
